THERE IS A GOD! I WIN! I WIN!

Wow. This is fantastic. A free new battery. I was just on the phone with AppleCare the other day trying to force them to give me a new one. My current battery is at 9% capacity, giving me only 10 minutes of battery life.

    This made my day. :D

CNET claims info will be here:

    http://support.apple.com/batteryprogram

    But it's not yet.

BHere's one Apple page for swapping out batteries:

    https://depot.info.apple.com/batteryexchange/index.html?lang=en

Not sure if it's valid for today's announcement or not (there's no date on the page that I saw).

    Wal-Mart is an EVIL CORPORATION!!

I do not mean that as HYPERBOLE, i mean that as FACT!!

Wal-Mart has violated every single law in the entire book, they destroy people's lives, they destroy communities, and they destroy humans.

You can learn all of the facts by watching this incredible documentary:

Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price
    http://www.walmartmovie.com

    WAL-MART IS EVIL!

    BOYCOTT WAL-MART AND *SCREW* WAL-MART!!

This would be a huge announcement if it comes in the next week or two. What a great way to get everyone talking about the iPod during the holiday shopping season.

The Beatles albums will sell... but more importantly, they will sell iPods.

It probably won't come before Christmas. Would cut into sales of the Beatles LOVE Songtrack. A MACWORLD accouncement would be about right!

It's a shame that these $65.00 chinese 1GB MP4 players with the Samsung chip have MP3 playback - Video - FM Radio - eBook Reader - Photo Viewer - Voice & FM Recorder, yet the Nano at three times the price does not!

Not sure about you, but I like Apple for its industrial design and simplicity, not feature bloat.

I think this will make the iPad 3 very revolutionary. I think it will be crazy but i hope its like the 3d in the 3DS and not with glasses. But i can definitely see 3D coming to all iOS devices and eventually to OSX devices as the bridge between the two systems will become closer and closer as we go into into the future.

hopefully we do get some really good "top-secret" stuff. Time Machine sounds like the utility in windose xp called systen restore and Spaces sounds like Exposé.
Time Machine is nothing like System Restore. Time Machine allows you to find multiple previous versions of a file. For example, if you accidentally save a revised file without changing the name with "Save As", you can still go back to the previous version of the file if you decide you don't like the revisions or if a file is lost or damaged (I remember one occasion when a child in my home deleted all the contents of an important document and then saved it, and another occasion when a document was corrupted by a drive error; Time Machine would have saved me hours of work on both occasions). System Recover is used to revert to a previous version of an OS when an OS update causes problems (although that would also be a useful utility to have, but its significance pales in comparison to Time Machine).

Spaces is like Exposé on steroids.

I agree with those who believe that, as Jobs said, Apple still has something up its sleeve, more consumer-oriented, likely to be announced at MWSF.

Now if Apple can only beat MS out of the gate on the release date...

They could do ads like this:

    (Cue I'm a Mac/I'm a PC music.)
    Mac: Hello, I'm a Mac.
    PC: And I'm a PC.
Mac: You know, I'm really excited, I have this new operating system called Leopard...
PC: Oh yes, I 'm going to have a new operating system too, called Vista...sometime soon...I think...well, at least there's an 80% chance I will...
Mac: That's great! So, what are some of the new things you'll be able to do...when it comes out, that is...
PC: Well, just about everything Apple said it would give you when it previewed your new OS five months ago, except for that cool Time Warp feature, and I guess that Spotlight search feature is kind of cool too, and all those great new Mail features...
Mac: That's nothing! Have you seen my (insert mind-blowing new feature here)!
PC: Well, just you wait! I'll have all of those features, too, when my next OS after Vista is introduced...in another five years...I hope.

It's cumbersome, hardly ideal, and defeats the purpose.

The problem with Apple simple. They have no enterprise strategy. They have no muscle to get developers to begin including Macs in custom software solutions, database integration, and web-services compatibility. Apple is totally missing the point, and doesn't understand the place of the computer in business and (this is the sad one) education.

So, Apple has the Xserve, right? Huge dismal failure for them. They are giving hardware to Universities, but they're not leveraging their weight to get software and datablase companies on board to write enterprise-wide server-based applications. A good example: some universities are in the process of migrating all their research to secure server farms, and interconnecting them nationwide to increase the pool of information available to researchers. This means that different applications, different file types, and different methods of gathering that information (such as a custom-written piece of software that, say, reads indentity cards or thumb-print records) need to become recognizeable, retrieveable, and editable from any location. Or what if libraries wanted to interconnect, creating a real-time updated database of all published works and periodicals known to mankind. They need to be able to trade data, and allow data to be submitted by individual users (such as a publication written by an independent party).

These are great examples of how the world is becoming more interdependent, and the personal computer is becoming merely a gateway to more information, applications and services. It's also a great way of illustrating how Apple is missing the boat entirely. They have made no such moves at the university (or even lower education) level. They have no plan (or so it seems) for the time when data unity is going to becom an essential element of the computing environement. They are making a wonderful move with embracing open standards, but they need to drive enterprise-level development. They need to sell solutions to the enterprises now, and make sure their technology is implemented, instead of trying to retrofit Mac-compatibility into an implemented solution. By then it will be too late, and the Mac platform will become obsolete.

I was talking about a new one not a refurbished one. I want to buy the core duo macbook after the c2d ones are released because i do not need the uprgrades and i could get a good deal. The core duo macbook pros dropped $300 so i was wondering how much the macbooks would drop.

I was talking about the new ones aswell  the refurb shop also sells stock they want to get rid of and that includes old macbooks.

Awww and I haven't even gotten tired of my first generation nano yet...

But if the metal enclosure is as good as those on the minis then I might just have to upgrade. :p

I still like my first generation Nano, but my girlfriends dog got a hold of it and broke the screen. Luckily I can see just enough of the bottom of the screen to put in on shuffle songs, so it's like having and extra wide black shuffle. I'm waiting update before I buy a new one. Besides, my trusty mini still works too.

Maybe all these rumors of a "squashed iphone 5 mini" are really leaks of the next gen ipod classic? That type of form factor makes more sense considering the way things are headed. Touch screens and all.

^ This is likely. Don't really need a home button when all you use it for is music. I might be thinking of a different leak from what he's referring though, either way...

EDIT: What I find hilarious is the fact that the majority of those naysayers from 2001 probably ate their words and bought an iPod in the end :D

No kidding -- kinda reads like the iPad comments from last year, except instead of six pages there are probably hundreds for iPad. Weird looking at those forum posts and not recognizing any of the posters and seeing some labeled as "guest".

    I recognize Capt Crunch.

I really hope that the Classic stays until we have a competing 128-256 GB iPod with physical buttons for at least play, fast forward and rewind. Thunderbolt would be a very nice bonus.

Apple hates physical buttons. No Apple device in the past ten years has ever moved backwards in the drive to eliminate physical buttons.

Button to open laptop display? Gone.
    Latches for batteries? Gone.
    Trackpad button? Gone.
Physical buttons on the iPod? Six.
Buttons on iPod Touch? Two (Four if you count the volume.)
Buttons for ejectable drives? Never existed.

Dude, you will never again see physical buttons for these things on an iDevice itself.

Because iPod Classics use a standard 1.8" ATA-66 hard drive, they can be upgraded with the right tools. I recommend getting one now and upgrading the drive later if it gets too small.

Why buy new if you intend to void the warranty? This is something I'll probably do in the coming few weeks myself. I think 1.8" HDD development's more or less plateaued as well.

Something tells me that one still using a 3GS isn't likely a must have "latest and greatest" kind of consumer. I had a 3GS which I bought on Day One. ATT let nearly everyone upgrade early to the 4 so I did. It was a no brainer. Why you stuck it out w/ the 3GS I can't say but to be bitching and moaning Apple doesn't upgrade fast enough like you are is silly. If you only upgrade every 3 years what difference would more frequent upgrades possibly make in your life? I think you protesteth too much.

Something tells me your drinking Apple koolaid.

I had the original iPhone when it was less then two months old, and bought the 3gs shortly after it's release too.

Not that it is any of your business, but I upgrade in my equipment in cycles. Instead of the craptastic iPhone 4, I bought a Sony Nex-5 with three lenses and a MacBook Pro i7 HR. This year it's time for a new phone. Soon.

It was a nobrainer for me not to upgrade to a POS. Hopefully they will get it right.. on time this time. I'm not bitching and moaning about slower release cycles, it's a stupid idea when a company like Apple has the ability to do the opposite. Maybe your ok waiting longer for old tech... ever wonder why PPC was ditched? But you must be happy with your PowerBook.

Its ok though. I used to be like you, taking opinions & shots at Apple personally. You might get out of it IF your smart enough.... Maybe not though in that case though.
