I wonder what breaks more often, the hard drives fitted in the classic or the fragile touch screens of the iPod touch?

I've had two HDD iPods - a 5th gen and a 6th gen - crap out on me within months. This wasn't unexpected since I was using them for long trips on motorcycles and Land Cruisers on crapped out African roads.
I used the original iPhone sans case for the most part for well over two years in fairly harsh environments. A lot of dents and scratches. Broke the glass last year when it fell off of a table onto a concrete floor.
The glass just has to be protected from mishaps and this is fairly easy to do. OTOH, depending on your usage patterns, there's nothing that you can do to prevent your HDD from failing.
Unfortunately, you are probably right. Though it would be nice to see one last revision of the Classic, I have a feeling that this is the end of the line. Also, a good point on the buy used bit. I tend to forget that the Classic is still two years old as is and used models are readily available on eBay, etc.

In fact I just called the store and said to them; "Uh, what's wrong with this picture, I paid more for an outdated Macbook and I still haven't received it"...
So he said that he'll cancel the original order and place a new one.
See, I even added an extra 512MB RAM to the original order cause I had to have it with at least 1GB of ram. Glad to see it is now included in the in-store versions.
But it was terribly close, cause they promised me the MacBook for this week and since it still didn't show up, I was getting suspicious. I guess I was right, they did release new MacBooks. I just didn't expect it...
In any event, all is well, and they will reorder the MacBook with Core2Duo and it might take longer but I'll save some money and I'll get a better machine that is BRAND new...
So that's my story to share on a "How close were you to buy an old mac Today" story...
Have fun guys... and if I get it soon, I'll let you know just how well it performs and if Rosetta is still a drag... "it probably is..." but at least I'll be able to use Aperture without a problem on it...

Like Flash or hate Flash, the fact remains that Flash enabled web site have a major prevalence on the web. I hate the fact that I should have the most technologically available device, but don't just because Apple won't allow Flash - which they could easily allow.
Politics and a pissing contest between Apple and Adobe and I have to suffer. Jobs is just trying to push for his own web app. But there is a jailbreak Flash app. Jobs may not put customers' desires at the top of his list, but DevTeam does.
Setting aside wether or not they "could easily allow" with all their various carrier agreements and such. Flash is just a bloated buggy hog that will make the iphone run badly. Apple won't allow that. And they shouldn't.
Flash needs to be rewritten from the ground up. Optimized to work with OS X and the iPhone OS (which is a version of osx). Maybe then Apple will let it on the iPhone.

Bringing them both to the same level creates the same problem Apple used to have... many (including myself) can easily justify getting MacBook instead of the MacBook Pro because the MacBook does everything you need the Pro version to do.
Sigh. The MBP offers a lot more than a faster CPU. Larger screen, dedicated GPU, better I/O, backlit keyboard to mention a few things. The MBP is a portable workstation and the MB is a notebook.

Stop making excuses for US companies that build their products elsewhere. We CAN manufacture things in this country; we used to do it a lot more and the products were affordable.
My Apple IIe says "Made in the USA" on the bottom. It's sad that we never see that on computers anymore.

Not necessarily. If the photosites on the sensor are still the same size you will get a worse picture. Higher megapixels != higher quality picture. In most cases they can make pictures worse by adding noise.
Maybe an 8mp bump will work in the iPhone, maybe not. Depends how the image sensor is created and how the lens is. Unfortunately Sony doesn't have the best track record with consumer imaging. I'd be more excited if Canon was making the camera.

I'm listening to my iPod Classic 160gb right now, I bought it after I got a 32gb Iphone 3GS. I just don't like touchscreen for music on the move.

I seriously doubt this is a major concern ATM for home users with secured wifi access points (and by that, I mean wifi APs that filter MAC addresses). In order for someone to use this exploit, they would undoubtedly have to be on your network..
