I really hope that this will be done in a way that can be turned off (i.e - display as normal 2D) as this could really be a bad move for the iPad. The advantage of the iPad is that you can just use it casually, on your lap, on an armrest and so-on; but with 3D the angle has to be just-so or the effect doesn't work.
If it were a feature you can turn on and off easily, and maybe turns on automatically when you place the iPad on a stand, then it could be do-able, otherwise it's just going to be a nightmare as unlike handheld gaming devices you don't hold an iPad in any one-way.
In fact, on that point, is it even possible to have a 3D screen that works both horizontally and vertically? I suppose it could be but it might mean generating four separate images and building the screen to separate them, that's quite a bit of wasted GPU power right there, not to mention manufacturing cost on the screen.

What the hell? Since when have apple made desktop computers?
These numbers include laptops too. Even the MBA falls in this category.

I just bought a Macbook Pro literally 5 minutes ago. I've been waiting for months and I finally gave up. After the order was completed, I thought I'd check macrumors just for laughs and the first thing I saw was, "new macbook pros tomorrow?" :(
"Giving up" does not mean buying outdated technology for top dollar. If you were truly giving up on waiting, you should have also given up on Apple -- who did not value your interest enough to give you either a discount or some indication as to when updates would be released.

Well, don't put back your camera just yet. If I recall it correct, you never set any time limit when you made your bold statement about Conroe in iMac. My guess is that Conroe eventually will arrive in iMacs...and when it does... we do (sort of) look forward to your promised homemovie. :D
Technicalities. :D
I did blow it with saying that Wodcrests would not go into MP's, though. :(

...finally...
Apple has dropped the ball here. Now that most laptops ship with the same chips, Apple can't claim the "Mhz Myth" or anything like that. They will have to keep up to speed, no pun intended.
The other company's comparable machines to the MacBook Pro have C2D processors. The ones that compete against the MacBook don't for the most part. Apple didn't drop the ball.

My Week 36 MacBook runs quietly, coolly and reliably. Should I apply the update?
Yes. It fixed my week 21 Macbook that just got RSS two days ago. Even if your Macbook runs nicely now, it could get RSS in the future and when you call Apple all they're going to tell you is to install the firmware update.

Just thought I'd post some information that I found about this. I don't understand a lot of the technical talk but the other stuff I do.

If the will of colonies wanted to be there own country and want to govern themselves, sure it is important. The issue with the taxes was not that they didn't want to pay taxes, but had no representation when Britain implemented the taxes upon the colonies. Hence the saying, " No taxation without representation".
And you think that justifies starting a war?
Imagine what the world would be like if you applied this logic to individual behavior. Because you wan't something than you have the right to violently take it?
Did the colonist's have reasons to be upset with the British empire, yes they did. Was their only recourse violent revolution, I would say not.
The South wanted to keep their slaves and they also felt they weren't being represented by their government. Does that give them the right to start a war?
Violence is only EVER acceptable if it is being used to stop violence.

To all those cutting military by huge percentages, what are your plans to deal with the millions of unemployed that would produce?
To those opposed to doing drastic cuts.....what do you plan to do to deal with the hundreds of millions affected if the country goes bankrupt?
As for our military.....we are so massively superior to any other nation, it's not like we are going to be at risk even if we do massive cutbacks in military spending.

Good for Apple...bad for consumers.
People with a Zune or any other player for that matter won't be able to download Beetles songs legally.
Yeah they will. iTunes works on any Windows or Mac system. They can listen to it on their computer, burn a CD, or even rip that CD back into a format that any player can play, with a minimal quality loss. Besides, anything that discourages consumers from buying a Zune is probably good for consumers :) .

I love how everybody is like "I've got the CDs who cares" or "Buy the CDs they are cheaper". The Beatles on iTunes isn't for you. It is for people who don't buy CDs, it's for the future when the majority of people get digital music and it's certainly for a whole generation of kids who won't know what a CD is or care, in the same way that vinyl is now seen as archaic.
I'm sure I am repeating someone else's thoughts, but it doesn't seem clear to a lot of people.
I think you are spot on with this. Amongst the throngs of those who "meh" everything, the digitizing of the Beatles is all about having their music to those who only know and purchase digital.
My daughter, who is 19, didn't know anything before CD until I educated her. At least she still buys CDs to this day.

419.9MB for me with 16GB 3Gs.
Different builds depending on device? Someone with multiple devices might be able to confirm that (if they have to download different builds, or possibly, if your iTunes manages multiple devices, that accounts for bigger downloads that accommodate multiple devices instead of just one).
Each device has it's own file. It's independent of memory size, so a 16GB iP4 would have the same file as a 32GB iP4 assuming both are GSM.
iPad 1 is one file and iPad2 has 3 files one for wifi, one for GSM, and one for CDMA.

I don't get it - if Wal-mart doesn't sell something does that mean no-one will buy it - at all? Just go elsewhere to get what you want.
Disclaimer: I am not defending Wal-Mart I think they have some very poor business practices and I rarely shop there.
In rural America a lot of the time there is not other choice than Wal-Mart. I know people that drive 40 miles to get to a town that has a Wal-Mart to do all their shopping. It would be over 100 miles to get to a city with a BestBuy or some other store that sells DVDs. For a lot of people, if they don't have it at Wal-Mart, it doesnt exist. I know this is sad but it is true.
I know Wal-Mart has a lot of bad practices, they treat their employees like crap, kill small companies that cant meet there supply requirements, etc. But, just a reminder, they are (for the most part) operating WITHIN THE LAW. So if you really disagree with what Wal-Mart does, you should contact your legislator and ask them to support laws that curtail these activities or contact your local district attorney's office if you think they are breaking the law.

yeah, using a third-party card AND driver software. stuff that 99.9% of macbook owners would never use anyway...if their goal was to show THAT a macbook could be hacked, they did show it. but they did not show that a macbook being used in a normal way using macbook drivers and hardware can be hacked. pretty piss-poor, IMO.

I would suggest that Apple implement some quality control for their MacBook line, but we all know what happens when they do. ;)
Because better quality control would have caught a hardware design error that doesn't happen to every MacBook and took 3 months (and several hundred thousand sold) to become prevalent?
The MacBook Pro and MacBook are Apple's first two attempts at notebooks using an entirely new architecture inside (Intel). Add to that the entirely new everything else that the MacBook got, and frankly I'm impressed that the RSS and case discoloration have been the only two issues.

I wish I lived closer to Apple, to be able to get sneak previews like this, and to be able to report on Apple News. One day I will prevail!
BTW, I cant wait for monday! Does anyone know what time the Keynote will be in Grenwich Mean Time (London). Just so I can log on and keep up with all the action.
Thanks.

Does iPad wifi and iPad 3G use the same update file or do I need to download twice?
Already got iPhone to do so 3 iOS downloads would be nice to avoid!

Like Flash or hate Flash, the fact remains that Flash enabled web site have a major prevalence on the web. I hate the fact that I should have the most technologically available device, but don't just because Apple won't allow Flash - which they could easily allow.
Politics and a pissing contest between Apple and Adobe and I have to suffer. Jobs is just trying to push for his own web app. But there is a jailbreak Flash app. Jobs may not put customers' desires at the top of his list, but DevTeam does.
Setting aside wether or not they "could easily allow" with all their various carrier agreements and such. Flash is just a bloated buggy hog that will make the iphone run badly. Apple won't allow that. And they shouldn't.
Flash needs to be rewritten from the ground up. Optimized to work with OS X and the iPhone OS (which is a version of osx). Maybe then Apple will let it on the iPhone.
