If it's shipping in June, even June 30, how can it not be near final form? I mean when a developer tells me s/w is "nowhere near final form" I'm thinking early beta at best. But 2.5 months from release (assume June 30) shouldn't it be in the bug testing phases and everything else locked up?
Coming from a software developer, it is very likely they are doing a concurrent development model whereby they integrate features from different source branches into the main branch one at a time. During this process you periodically "reverse integrate" the main branch into your feature branch to ensure your feature branch is functioning properly. When you complete a feature branch that has the latest main branch features integrated, you test the build within the feature branch, ensure it works, and then integrate into the main branch to make the new feature available to the other feature branches.
If the "missing" features are relatively orthogonal to one another then it is very likely that when this "main branch" was built in February, that testing of the missing features was already well underway on separate builds within each feature branch. However, you don't integrate into the main branch until you believe the feature branch is bug free.
So if they have major other things to integrate into the main release branch, then they should have all at been at about 98% code-completion in the February time frame, but still undergoing quality testing and bug-fix iterations. There is no way they are slapping new things on at the last minute other than fixes to defects they find.
My bet is that the "missing features" are tied to other things they don't want to announce yet because it might reveal some of their strategy in other areas (i.e.: things like integration with iOS 5, cloud services, or iTunes or whatever -- who knows). There is obviously something they are holding back that Apple seems to feel is a big deal.

Absolutely. I'm a bit surprised at all the misinformation (nobody is drilling a friggin' screw in your MacBooks, people).
Is that the verdict on the screw issue?
I had my Blackbook in twice and the second time they replaced the heatsink (no problems since) but other than a slightly warped battery, I have not noticed anyother cosmetic changes.
If people are getting screwed they should post pictures (no pun intended). ;)

I don't particularly believe this. I don't think Wal-Mart is ever threatened by anything except a union.
It's just like what happened to Music. Even if it takes off on the iTunes Store, I dont think that the sales of DVDs will be affected very much. So I dont see what the deal would be. Unless its a union

Interesting... I've been assuming the video store has been holding up the video iPod, but that doesn't appear to be the case...

just thinking... add built in text to speech and you have listen to the paper on the way to work :)
what i Love about the iPod is that it is undefined, sure originally released as a music player but it truly has unlimited possibilities. I just wish Apple would speed things up.

But do Americans REALLY want to be building laptops/ipods/ipads? i think society in developed countries such as the states has vigorously changed since 20 years ago.
I wouldn't want to man the production line but i'd love to setup automation, especially if the price was right.
But the environmental impact that manufacturing has is huge. I'll take a discount on my products if it means the chinese will ruin their environments faster than we can.

The New York Post (http://www.nypost.com/business/retail_iation_business_tim_arango.htm) reports that Wal-Mart is warning Hollywood studios against partnering with Apple's iTunes Store for movie distribution.
According to studio executives, "Wal-Mart has overtly threatened to retaliate if [studios] go into business with Apple."
While Apple has only signed one movie studio (Disney) to the iTunes store, the early success (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060919142943.shtml) has caught the attention of other studios. One executive is quoted as saying "We all want to be in the Apple business".
The threat of Wal-Mart repurcussions, however, may temper enthusiasm as Wal-Mart controls a large portion of the retail market for DVDs.
The situation between [Wal-Mart] and Hollywood has gotten so heated and so high-level that Jobs recently phoned Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott to ask him to moderate his stance, according to a source.

One of the best application updates Apple has done in a long time.
Great job Apple. Simply great.
Agreed. iTunes 5 and 6 were a little 'meh' but I'm loving 7 so far.

I just bought a Macbook Pro literally 5 minutes ago. I've been waiting for months and I finally gave up. After the order was completed, I thought I'd check macrumors just for laughs and the first thing I saw was, "new macbook pros tomorrow?" :(
lol! sucks... or maybe you have an awesome machine one the way anyway. i bought my macbook pro right before they did the 2.53 refurbs to make way for the sd cardslot mbp's. those could handle 8 gig of mem and mine is a 2.4 with 4gb max. all they sold those for just 1500 bucks and i bought mine for 1800. i was a month and 6 days out of the price guarantee threshhold. i wanted to die...... but then i realized my mac is a monster in it's own right and im enjoying the heck out of it and will continue to do so for the next 7 or 8 years. ..... still sucks tho.

If it's going to have a huge screen why not make it have a satellite based navigation system too. That would be handy...
As for the reader, sounds cool to me! :)

"Giving up" does not mean buying outdated technology for top dollar. If you were truly giving up on waiting, you should have also given up on Apple -- who did not value your interest enough to give you either a discount or some indication as to when updates would be released.

Why such a great camera on the iphone and such loser ones on the ipad?
Here we go again with the pixel complaints.
The ipad or for that matter iphone is NOT a camera.
If you want to take pictures of professional quality, buy a stand alone camera that does that.
Higher quality of anything initially costs more, until what was once high becomes the standard due to mass production.
It initially costs more, because production output is less, flaws needs to be ironed out, the production process refined etc.
How difficult is that to understand?.

I love how everybody is like "I've got the CDs who cares" or "Buy the CDs they are cheaper". The Beatles on iTunes isn't for you. It is for people who don't buy CDs, it's for the future when the majority of people get digital music and it's certainly for a whole generation of kids who won't know what a CD is or care, in the same way that vinyl is now seen as archaic.
I'm sure I am repeating someone else's thoughts, but it doesn't seem clear to a lot of people.
I guess you're right, but it means I'm much older than I thought ! I grew up with CDs and now, kids don't know what a CD is :D

Ugh, this is going to give my PC-loving friends fuel for YEARS. Just like every little crap article that comes out about ANY possible Apple security problem.
The taunts are already pouring in! "Ha! Ha! The shoe is on the other foot now!" "Oh how the tables do turn!" "Guess you can't act all high and mighty NOW, huh?" "Intel chips and now exploding batteries? Where do I sign up for a DellI mean, Mac again?"
AHH!!!

If you plan to upgrade the RAM anyhow - go for the 2.0 model. It has Superdrive (DL), 1 Gig RAM, 4 MB Processor cache (instead of 2MB for the 1.83) and bigger HD.
Upgrading to 2GB from the 2.0Ghz model seems like a waste since you'll have to throw away perfectly good DIMMS. I hate when Apple forces one to upgrade RAM along with higher priced specs.

Is this just the only for the Macbook, or is the macbook pro also affected?
Seems like the pro would be affected too. But I have no idea why you would want to use a SECOND wireless card on a pro. The one built-in seems like it would be enough.
In other words, this attention-craving hacker decided to use a Mac to demonstrate an exploit that is far more threatening to a PC. The chances of a Macbook user a) buying a 3rd party wireless card and b) hooking it up to a Macbook are slim and none.
Now if this exploit was demonstrated using the internal wireless, it would be a whole different level of seriousness.
And don't even get me started on wifi security... :D

I think I'll enjoy my iPhone 4 a while longer and my battery life. LTE is not prevalent enough yet, nor are the chipsets able to run low power enough. Mid 2012 is the best timeframe for LTE. Any earlier and you are on the bleeding edge of no infrastructure. The networks and the technology simply aren't ready.
Oh, and the biggest myth about LTE: People actually believe there will be a significant bandwidth improvement. Sorry, but the jump from EDGE to 3G was much more significant than 3G to LTE, especially with 3G running at 7.2.

I can't see 3D, so I guess I wouldn't get to experience the "magic." Poo.
Uh, isn't the world in 3D? I mean, we do see in three dimensions, correct? Is this a clever way of saying you are blind?
