ThinkSecret is generally dead on when it comes to things like this. So, it'd be great if they released an updated 23" iMac. I just got a 5G iPod 30GB in July and am happy with it so I don't need a new 'pod. And yes, I just got a new MacBook 2 weeks ago, but for future purchases, a 23" iMac would be neat.

i hope it comes with a battery that lasts two or three days. the last thing i'd do is read a book connected to an adapter.

I recently read an article that outlined the orchestration of product release by Apple. In a nutshell, Apple does't want to release too many products in one setting because 1. each new release potentially overshadows the next 2. media buzz will die down in a couple weeks. Apple wants to keep their name in the news as much as possible so they make major announcements, in drips and drabs. Of course this may or may not apply to this new event, but i would speculate that they would not release a new iPod and a 23" iMac in the same event. Apple depends on maximum buzz with the release of the new iPods and I don't think they would take the shance that a new iMac would overshadow it completely. Thoughts?
Well, I believe that Apple WILL introduce an iPod alongside a Mac, as they did last october. A new Mac isn't worth the cover of TIME, but a new iPod is. By introducing a Mac at the same time, it shares the spotlight. Last year when the video iPod came out, the new iMac G5 with iSight also made the cover of TIME, but it wouldn't have if there wasn't a video iPod next to it.
What you say applies to multiple iPods; Apple wouldn't introduce the 6G iPod alongside a new nano.

Apple should take finger out of their back parts asap!
Very soon indeed it might turn out to be too late...

Every time engineers are trying to be clever they run the risk of messing things up. Taking the old iOS, removing it completely, and installing a completely new, fresh iOS is safe and risk free. Trying to be clever and replace only the right things risks messing up things and leaving a very, very, very unhappy customer.
But don't they manage patches with Mac OS X all the time... ? And Mac OS X has much more of the OS exposed and accessible to the user (more to be tinkered with).
I would just like smaller, incremental updates. To be honest I don't mind attaching the phone to the computer to backup before an update at all, it just seems sensible. Updating over 3G before backing up seems risky... unless the backup will happen as part of their 'iCloud' system perhaps?

Those prices seem inline with the current cost of XP Pro.
$299 list, $250 amazon, $135 newegg oem
Would like to see Apple offer it installed for $99

I also think that whoever has the remaining rights to this material realise that its shelf-life is almost up. In 5-10 years time, the broad appeal of much of this material may have less relevance to the average consumer and its perceived market-value may be far less.
That's not a comment on the merits of The Beatles' music; just my view based on many of the comments I read by what I am assuming are younger music listeners.
I'm 43, many of these songs are ingrained into my memory from childhood, but the only Beatles albums I would possibly be interested in are maybe 2-4 remastered CDs; I'm not interested in downloads at all. But to be honest, I don't feel that by not currently owning them that my music collection is lacking at all.
I don't know about that. I'm young and I love the Beatles. They may decrease in popularity, but I don't expect them to go away ever. Also, it is still quite common for popular artists to cover Beatles songs. Just do a search for some songs on iTunes.
Beethoven and Mozart aren't the most popular artists on the charts today, but their music is still very well known and loved. I expect the Beatles to be known and loved in 100 years. Practically everybody would recognize the opening of Beethoven's fifth, even if they didn't know it was the fifth or that it was written by Beethoven. The Beatles may not reach that level, but their music will be around. They are the most popular artists of this century.

I understand your point. I do, however, feel that Apple has more of the platform's long-term best interests at heart, versus the developers delay of a UI for 5 months.
If we're to assume the "Top Secret to prevent photocopying" theory, then these next 5 months are more crucial to Apple's development than the platform developers. Come January, Apple might spill all the details of the (currently speculative) Finder, and developers have from then until release date to incorporate it. Sure, it's a delay of 5 months, but think big-picture. If Apple's secretiveness prevents Vista from incorporating Leopard UI traits, it's worth the wait to make Leopard appear further ahead.*
*We all know this is a rumor site, but the above is purely speculation on my part.
I guess I'm just not seeing the point in keeping stuff secret.
I understand that Apple uses the photocopy thing as a joke, but in all reality, it isn't like Microsoft is stealing lines of code. The features that Apple has included are not necessarily original. They are just original as being "incorporated" in the OS.
Big picture, they should have spilled it all. The reaction to Leopard has already been rather blah. And so what if Microsoft steals one or two "top secret" features.
Time Machine - nothing new conceptually, just graphically improved
Spaces - A blatant rip of "Virtue" for OS X
Mail Improvements - I already have plugins that do most of that
iChat - About 1000 people have already pointed out a been there, done that for iChat
All of Apple's supposed "new" features are not as new as they seem.
I like what they are doing with the stuff, but right now they need to save their *** and give away some "secret" features before people stop caring.

My wife said no too and this even includes my wish for one for my upcoming bday to get one.
I need a new iMac Quad Core or Macbook Pro quad core (would need to have 8gb ram and minimum 750gb to 1tb hard drive), plus I need a larger time machine backup drive and my wife keeps telling me no also.
But for me, it is not a toy. I've been unemployed for the last almost year and now my computer has become a work machine for free-lancing. I will need a power-horse as I am considering the reality of having to start my own business, as there are no jobs around here.
My wife really was not happy when I bought my iPad 1 last year. I had to settle for a wifi only version. Now she says "Yeah, it is awesome and you do get a lot of use out of it, but I still think the money could've been better spent".
My iPad is my mobile machine. I take it to conferences, job hunting, classes, church, meeting with my free-lance clients, etc. And my 2008 (heavily used) macbook is my home machine. Internal drive is getting full, external drives are going on 3-5 years old and with only 2gb ram, I can no longer run a VM for my very few windows-only needs (darn web hosting companies or websites that are SQL server and IE only driven).

Hey quick question.
I was originally going to get the 20". With the proc upgrade, ram upgrade, and graphics upgrade.
But now I'm looking at the 24" with only a ram upgrade. I'm not a "pro" so would I really notice a diff with the proc upgrade? And isn't the 128mb 7300 still much better than the 256mb 1600?
The price diff between those two models still puts it at the price I was planning on spending on the 20" before the upgrades happened.... what should I do? I mean 24" is a nice size, but what I'm looking at is brighter screen, better speakers, better vid card... thats where I should be going right?

Number One checking in! Seriously, I started the first "Post Your Mac Setup" thread.
It still boggles my mind that this has made it to 13 parts and is still going strong! *knock on wood* I hope it never ends!
I just sold my MacBook Pro but once my iMac arrives I will take photos of my setup for everyone. It's definitely changed a lot since then, lol.
Plus, everyone else's photos are making me super envious!

agree that the mono mixes are better. but leave the stereo ones alone.I hope the Beatles catalog will include both versions. For example, the mono version of Blue Jay Way was much different than the stereo version, so I'll have to get both.

I'm all for apple pushing back the iPhone 5 so they can incorporate 4G. This would make sense since ATT is currently buying T-Mobile who has had 4G all over commercials for a while. If apple waits til 2012 to be the last phone to adopt 4G then sales would definitely take a little hit. I remember getting the original iPhone 3G, and its not like 3G was everywhere then... pretty much big city metropolis areas anyways.

Because those morons have to clear caches worldwide so that all the Akamai pages/sites are updated in sync.
Then maybe they should consider using an automated software solution for that instead - the morons seem to be slow ;)
Seriously, the international store shows a simple link to the iPad product page. That is _not_ a complex update.

Just went to the Best Buy across my street that had the iPad 2 in there deals of the week thingy and they said they would have a ton, went an hour early they don't have any, 10 minutes prior to store opening they don't have any. They said they aren't getting any but you can put $100 down to reserve one to get it by the beginning of May. Fk that, online Apple store it is for the same amount of time. Also target's, toy's r'us, etc don't have any even though they say they do. Just a heads up if you're in a booming city on the east coast.

When new products are released, the existing promotional deals don't always apply to them.
Let's hope this isn't case.. Anyway, here in Sweden the back to school-offer lasts until October 7th so if it shouldn't apply then I can just place a new order :p

Lets hope they remaster them - the stereo effects on the original versions can be really painful on a pair of headphones.
Huh??
For one, they would have to be remixed to fix whatever you find wrong with them.
And then -- I can't figure out what you're talking about. I have no problems listening to any Beatles albums in Stereo. They're perhaps wider stereo soundstages than you'd find today (where albums mostly play the same GD thing out of both channels) -- but that makes them sonically interesting, not unlistenable.
